April 14, 2010 (Day 74) — Jenn’s Chocolate Martini
There are countless recipes for chocolate martinis out there. They range from simple to mind-numbingly complex. Delicious to utter crap. I’ve made a lot of chocolate martinis since I first started my career as amateur bartender. And yet, one of the first chocolate martinis that I every made is still one of Jenn’s favorites. A chocolate martini with nothing more than vodka and creme de cacao.
I have to go shoot photos this evening, so this will be a quick one.
Jenn’s Chocolate Martini
2 oz chocolate vodka
2 oz creme de cacao
Stir until very cold, about 30 seconds. Pour into a chilled martini glass.
You want to make sure that you stir this cocktail, and not shake it. If you shake it, the vodka gets bruised, and then you’re stuck with a cloudy, watered down martini.
And this beast packs a punch. This is actually based off of a Black and White Martini, which I will write about down the line. Suffice it to say, the first time I made this drink, the two of us polished it off on an empty stomach, and we were both sufficiently buzzed.
By mixing the two parts equally, you have the heft of the vodka and the sweetness of the creme de cacao. And it sneaks up on you. It’s the ninja of cocktails.
Cheers!
