ORIGINAL — Fetus in a Glass

October 20, 2011 (Day 205) — Fetus in a Glass

We’re starting to dip our toes into the Halloween cocktails this week, featuring a new original with an offensive name from our executive editor, Jenn!

We’re guessing she was inspired by recent episodes of “An American Horror Story,” considering the first episode boasts floating body parts, and even a fetus in a jar. And just like any Halloween drink, this one is chock full of strangeness.

The two big strange things:

• It tastes great.

• It’s difficult drink. (More on that later).

So, anyway, Jenn mixed this up on the Cocktails, 365 test bar while Mark had his back turned, so we’ll be interested to see the final result.

Fetus in a Glass

  • 1.5 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon
  • 1 oz Barenjager Honey Liqueur
  • 1 oz hazelnut liqueur
  • Heavy cream to drizzle

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and the strain into a chilled martini glass. Top with a “fetus” of cream. Jenn did this by drizzling one long stream of cream over the top of the cocktail. If done right, the cream will stay together and create this wholly unpleasant floating globule in the center of your amber creation.

It looks gross. That’s a good thing. It tastes good, that’s another good thing.

But the texture. Good lord, the texture…

Mark's reaction gives you a good overview...

If done right, the cream has created these little worm-like rivulets that hold their shape as you drink the cocktail. It’s like drinking a worm. A delicious worm, but a worm nonetheless.

Cheers!

— Mark and Jenn
