ORIGINAL — Ectoplasm Punch

October 31, 2011 (Day 216) — Ectoplasm Punch

Ahhh. Halloween. It truly is my favorite holiday. I mean, like really. Even as I got older and it shifted from candy to booze and scantily clad women, I kept my love of the fall holiday that lets you forget yourself, if only for an evening. As such, now hosting an annual Cocktails, 365 Halloween party, we’ve been having to figure out the best way to create drinks that a lot of people will like without completely breaking the bank.

Now, punches are usually the best choice for parties, as they tend to make a lot and people are able to serve it up themselves. Much like shots, I’ve struggled with punches in the past. I’m used to focusing over one single cocktail and creating that singularity. However, I decided to bite the bullet and create my own punch. Especially since I was on vacation last week, I had plenty of time and opportunity to enter the Cocktails, 365 test bar and whip up several different kinds. Listed below was a hit. We hope you’ll like it too.

Now THAT'S a party.

Ectoplasm Punch

  • 1 package lemon-lime Kool-Aid (You’ll want that bright green)
  • 1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 750 ml bottle Burnett’s Citrus Vodka
  • Ginger ale to top

Combine the Kool-Aid, juices, and vodka in a pitcher and stir well. Fill a rocks glass with ice, and fill halfway up with the punch. Top with the ginger ale. Garnish with something creepy.

Almost like wedding punch, but with booze. Here’s the dangerous note — you pretty much can’t taste the liquor. But it’s there. Lurking. We premiered this at the Halloween party on Saturday, and tore through several pitchers of it. Relatively fast. Citrus, just a bit of sweet, and that nice bit of bubble from the ginger ale.

So, make sure you have enough on hand.

Cheers!
