Valentine’s Day is this Friday, so why not take advantage of the time of year you’re supposed to somehow love the person you’re with more. We’re not sure why that is, it’s either a convoluted bit of astrological bunkum or a marketer’s wet dream. Either way, we’re never ones to begrudge the opportunity to share the love.
Even if that love is just with yourself.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day (and the snow finally melting in our neck of the woods), we’re reviewing Epic Vodka, as well as one of its flavored variants – cherry.

Just remember that Valentine’s Day cocktails are just like cocktails any other day of the year – you don’t always have to go fancy, but you do always want to make sure that it’s balanced and it tastes good!
Epic Vodka Original
Epic Vodka Original
Nose: Strong scent of bread.
Neat: Heavy mouth feel. Slight bitterness on the end. It has a nice crisp clean bite. Most definitely a wheat vodka. Very pleasing bit of depth.
On the Rocks: Sweetness comes out more. Takes some of the bite away.
Verdict: A solid basic vodka. While it’s not going to bowl you over, it’s definitely a good vodka that will hold its own in most cocktails.

Nose: Bright cherry scent. Encouragingly un-cough-syrup-like. No scent of the spirit.
Neat: Sweet up front, but not sickly. Strong cherry flavor, but not a liqueur. Encouraging, as its one of the few flavored vodkas we’ve had that doesn’t taste like someone just tossed a bunch of lifesavers into the still.
On the Rocks: Much sweeter, but there’s still a pleasant bit of bitterness that’s much more distinct.
Verdict: While we’re not traditionally fans of flavored vodkas (especially cherry flavor), if that’s your bag then this is one brand you’ll definitely want to keep on hand!
