The Diesel line is a new joint from AJ Fernandez – one of the protégés of Don Alejandro Robaina.
The Diesel Corona Maduro came on sale to Cocktails, 365 with strong recommendations from fellow smokers.
Size: 5 x 42
Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
Body: Medium to Full
Filler: Nicaragua
Cost: $89.95 for a tin of 30 ($2.86 per cigar) (via cigar.com)
Scent: Leathery and oily. Dark.
First Light: Dark and oily, but a clean, tight draw.
Halfway Through: The tastes becomes a bit harsher with a fuller body experience. A bit of carbon, but not enough to detract from the smoke.
Final Third: Mellows out again on the last bit. While the flavor is much heavier, it has a pleasant spice and you lose the carbon that was in the middle.
Verdict: It can be a bitch to track these down in individual sticks, so you’ll most likely be looking for these in a tin, box, or bundle. If you do, make sure you’re okay with a darker smoke, because you don’t want to drop the nigh-on $100 for a box you won’t enjoy. Very nice in our opinion though. The corona is just the right size, too.
