Welcome to the Holiday-themed Post the Publican, where we answer all of your Holiday-themed, booze-related questions. (With some other answers thrown in for shits and giggles).
Anthony D. – What are the best holiday drinks with bourbon?
M. Vierthaler – You could always go with that super classic – egg nog. Although it traditionally is made with brandy, a sweeter bourbon is damn fine. Maple bourbon smash is good:
- .5 oz maple syrup
- .5 oz oj
- .25 oz lemon juice
- 4 dashes orange bitters
- 2 oz bourbon
Or, just make a Boilermaker – 2 oz bourbon, stout beer to top, poured in a pint glass.
Patrick M. – There is a Romanian style alcohol called ‘Tuica.’ Where can I find this in the US?
M. Vierthaler – Unfortunately honest-to-god tuica is nearly impossible to track down in the US (unless you want to distill it yourself, of course). Similar (but not quite the same) is slivovitz, which is a Slavic plumb “brandy” and you can find that at places like theliquorbarn.com/slivovitz-brandy or on drinkupny.com. I’ve also heard tuica is occasionally available at various World Market locations. Conversely, there’s http://www.tzuica.ro/english/bottle-750-ml.html I don’t know if they ship internationally, however.
