June 9, 2013 (Day 30) – The Ford Cocktail
Hailing from George Kappler’s Modern American Drinks (1895), the Ford Cocktail does not (obviously, to our history buffs) refer to Henry Ford of motorcar fame.
Ted Haigh posits in his wonderful book Vintage Spirits & Forgotten Cocktails that it may have been named after Malcolm Webster Ford, “famed champion athlete, journalist, and great-grandson of Noah Webster.”
- 1 oz Old Tom Gin
- 1 oz dry vermouth
- 3 dashes Benedictine
- 3 dashes orange bitters
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with cracked ice. Stir well and then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
