May 27, 2013 (Day 18) – Planter’s
This recipe appeared in How to Mix Drinks by Bill Edwards, published in 1936.
- 1.5 oz dark rum
- 1.5 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1.5 oz fresh orange juice
Combine all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice. Shake well – at least 30 seconds or until your hands start to feel cold.
Strain into a chilled rocks glass, then pop a few of the ice cubes from the shaker into the glass so it fills up to the top.
Make sure you’re using fresh lemon juice because if you use that bottled crap you’ll regret it. It’s nice and tropical, and despite all the citrus, a bit heavy.
