Zacapa Highball

Having made two different cocktails with the Zacapa so far, we decided it was about time to create something a little more simple. You see, having drank the Zacapa neat, there are some excellent notes and complexities in the rum’s flavor. While the other mixed drinks have been good, our biggest complaint is that the mixers take those subtleties, jump them in a dark alley and work them over with a pipe wrench.

“She had the type of legs you could just keep drinking in, like a fine rum.”

That is, to say, they get lost with all the other flavors. You still have a nice solid taste, but it just kind of wafts off into the breeze. While this one certainly uses a number of ingredients, we feel they will be able to enhance these sweeter notes in the Zacapa.

Zacapa Highball

  • 2 oz Ron Zacapa
  • .5 oz orange curaçao
  • 2 oz ginger beer
  • Juice from one fresh lime
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Combine all the ingredients in a highball glass filled with ice. Stir well and garnish with a lime wheel.

The notes are able to come through while being a perfectly balanced cocktail.
