January 11, 2011 (Day 288) — Turkey Toddy

Let the crappy word play continue! Huzzah! Callooh! Callay! I chortled in my joy.

Today is National Hot Toddy Day! And it all came about just in time, as we went from a 60+ day at the Cocktails, 365 HQ yesterday to below freezing today. Perfect timing to spend some time thawing out those joints and muscles frozen up in the sudden cold snap. This is our own adaption of a classic Whiskey Hot Toddy.

Turkey Toddy

  • 2 oz Wild Turkey 81
  • Juice from one fresh lemon
  • 1 tsp brown sugar syrup
  • 4 oz boiling water
  • 1 lemon slice
  • 1 whole clove

Combine the lemon juice, whiskey, and syrup in the bottom of a clear, heat resistant mug. Stir together until well mixed. Top with the boiling water. Garnish with the lemon wedge, skewered with the clove.

The goal of a hot toddy is to knock the cobwebs out — clear out your head with some steaming lemon juice, but also whollop those sinuses with some booze to help you sleep. This achieves both of those goals beautifully.
