Neo Fashioned

October 22, 2011 (Day 207) — Neo Fashioned

The Old Fashioned embodies how simple mixology can be some of the most complex and yield some of the best tasting cocktails out there.

However, the cocktail does also show how there are many people out there who simply just don’t like strong, powerful drinks. Or rather, they do, but they prefer their tipples to be just a little bit sweeter. There’s nothing wrong that. The beauty of mixing cocktail is that can create cocktails to be enjoyed by any all types of drinkers.

I’d call this a more feminine version of the Old Fashioned, but that seems a bit sexist. Let’s just say it’s a bit sweeter and a bit more soft, for those who don’t always like to drink those heady drinks of old. Man or woman.

Neo Fashioned

  • 2 oz Buffalo Trace Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
  • .25 oz St. Germain
  • 2 dashes cherry brandy
  • 1 sugar cube

Place the sugar cube at the bottom of a rocks glass and soak with the cherry brandy. Muddle with a maraschino cherry. Fill the glass with ice and the St. Germain and bourbon and then stir well. Top with tonic water. Garnish with a whole maraschino cherry. Serve.

Sweet, but well-balanced and tasting. It’s not as intense as your traditional Old Fashioned, but it still packs the whallop.

Cheers!
