October 10, 2011 (Day 195) — Holy Hell
Autumn has descended like a blanket over Kansas. After the driest summer on record and one of the worst heat waves in recent memory, we finally have some overcast clouds, some rain is falling, and it doesn’t feel like stepping into a convection oven when you go out the door. We even got a little over an inch of rain! This is much more impressive than it sounds, to those of you who live in areas with regular rainfall.
However, now that we’re settled in for the autumn, it’s time to bust out the warming cocktails. It’s also time to bust out the Halloween decorations. It’s always been my favorite holiday, especially in recent years as Jenn and I have begun hosting a costume party for all of our friends. And we thought or trick or treating days were behind us!
Anyway, this is a nice cocktail for a chill evening, or if you happen to be laid up with fall allergies.
Holy Hell
- 1.5 oz Monarch Hazelnut Liqueur
- 2 oz Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 3 whole cloves
- Hot water to top
Combine all ingredients in an Irish coffee mug and stir well.
Nice bit of spice, with the heat, and soothing with the hazelnut and honey.
Cheers!
