September 14, 2011 (Day 169) — Blood Red
The weather has turned to fall, which means our thoughts have turned to Halloween — our favorite holiday.

Extra geek points for those who can identify the two characters our editor-in-chief and executive editor are.
This means that as the leaves turn, you can expect to see some more fall-like drinks. Tonight is one of them. It’s going to be heavy sweet (just to warn you non-sweet cocktaileers out there). But, it has a nice, spooky color just in time for the haunting time.
Blood Red
- 2 oz 360 Madagascar Vanilla Vodka
- 1 oz Chambord raspberry liqueur
- 1 “glug” of creme de cacao
Combine the two ingredients in a cocktail glass filled with ice and then stir well. Serve with a garnish of blood orange.
Again, this is very heavy. The already heavy raspberry liqueur is weighed down by the vanilla. However, while weighed down is usually used as a negative comment, it works in this cocktail’s flavor. It’s very sweet, certainly a dessert cocktail, but also very well balanced and damn tasty. If you like raspberry, you’ll love this. If not, steer clear.
Cheers!
