August 26, 2011 (Day 150) — Scottish Tourist
When I first started as a reporter in newspapers, one of the people I got to interview was another journalist who haled from Scotland. He had come out to write about Dodge City and it’s western heritage. He was very charming, very kind, and had an accent so thick you couldn’t hack your way through it with a machete.
For those who watch BBC America, it really can’t prepare for a true Scottish dialect. It’s amazing, and I mean that in a truly appreciative way. We had a steak dinner at a local restaurant and I could have simply sat and listened to him all night. This one is dedicated to him.
Scottish Tourist
- 2 oz blended scotch whiskey
- 1 oz Blackmaker Root Beer liqueur
Combine the ingredients in a rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Stir gently and then serve.
Delicious. A little bit western. A little bit Scottish. It doesn’t sound like it would taste that good, but it really does. The smokiness of the scotch comes through, but is tempered by the vanilla/anise flavor of the Blackmaker. Perfect for my scottish friends who know WHAT Dodge City is, maybe just not WHERE.
Cheers!

Which whiskey did you use? Tried this last night- very interesting! But I think a better whiskey would have helped ours – the Crown didn’t cut it!
