July 27, 2011 (Day 121) — Downtown Tampico
Ah, Tampico.
From Wikipedia:
Tampico is a city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Economic development during the 1920s made the city a pioneer in the aviation and soda industries. Oil is the chief export, but the city also is a major exporter of silver, copper, and lumber, together with wool, hemp, and other agricultural products. Containerized cargo, however, is mainly handled by the neighboring ocean port of Altamira. The city has seen a large spike in drug violence over the past two years.
Tampico is also the name of a line of fruit drinks from Mexico. To the best of our knowledge, they aren’t seeing a large spike in drug violence. They are seeing a spike in deliciousness, though.
The Tampico cocktail is supposed to play off the fruitful flavor of the classic Tampico fruit concentrates. This is a play off of that drink.
Tampico
- 1.5 oz Grand Monarch Orange Liqueur
- 1 oz Cynar artichoke bitters
- 1 oz lemon juice
- fill with tonic water
Build the drink in a high ball glass and top with tonic water.
Just a little bit of citrus from the Grand Monarch and a little bit of bitter from the Cynar.
Cheers!
