Alabazam

June 21, 2011 (Day 85) — Alabazam

Alabazam sounds a bit to me like a redneck “Ta-da.”

This is what came up with when we Googled “Redneck Magician.”

However, the Alabazam is a classic brandy-based cocktail with a nice mix of heaviness from the brandy and lightness from the citrus.

Alabazam

  • 2 oz brandy
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz orange curaçao
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 oz soda water

Combine the brandy, lemon juice, orange curaçao, simple syrup and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with the club soda and stir gently.

One of the unique traits of brandy is that no matter what drink it’s being mixed in, it lends a heaviness to the end of the bright citrus in this drink.

Cheers!
