April 26, 2011 (Day 29) — Florida Special
Another summery drink, quite a bit heavier than last nights. We’ve had a bit of a strange day with foggy morning, a bright sunshiny afternoon, and then a rainy evening. It seems like a good time to pretend that I’m on a tropical beach somewhere.
- 1.5 oz Bacardi Gold Rum
- .25 oz triple sec
- .25 oz maraschino liqueur
- 1 oz orange juice
Shake over crushed ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
The maraschino lends its earthy flavor, while the citrus of the triple sec and orange juice take some of the sweet off of the rum. The original recipe called for it to be served up in a chilled cocktail glass.
However, the drink warms up far to fast to really be enjoyed on the back porch while indulging in a cigar and some good conversation.
Cheers!
