April 4, 2011 (Day 8 ) — Yellow Submarine
We all live in the Yellow Submarine. We all live in the Yellow Submarine. We all live in the Yellow Submarine. The Yellow Submarine. The Yellow Submarine.
This week we’ll be focusing on Boru Vodka as the budget liquor of the week! I mentioned Boru quite a bit back in the original year of the blog.
You can’t beat the price point — roughly $20 for the 1.75 liter bottle of Boru. For the price you would think you’re about to take a swig of some rotgut stuff. You’d be wrong though. While there is a distinct grain alcohol flavor on the end while tasted neat, in a cocktail the vodka completely disappears into the background, allowing the drink to take on the characteristics of the mixers.
Tonight we’re going to put that to the test with a drink that uses two other strong flavors to dominate the drink.
Yellow Submarine
- 1.5 oz vodka
- .5 oz white rum
- .5 oz banana liqueur
- banana slice for garnish
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the banana slice.
Very good! The vodka tempers the sweetness of the creme de bananes and the rum, but keeps the body supplied by the two. Makes you think of the summer months spent by the pool, but not the overpoweringly super sweetness you’ll find in most tropical drinks.
Cheers!
