January 12, 2011 (Day 347) — Banana Crantini
It was another cold morning today. And by cold, I mean -15 wind chill. However, I refuse to acknowledge that there’s snow on the ground and the wind is ball-shrivelingly freezing. In my mind, I’m on a tropical island somewhere. On a tropical island that needs to get rid of their bottle of cranberry vodka. Because it’s been sitting in my fridge for a couple weeks now.
This drink is a breath of tropical air in a dry and windy prairie landscape.
Banana Crantini
1 oz banana liqueur
1 splash Rose’s lime juice
2 1/2 oz cranberry vodka
1 splash cranberry juice
1 oz pineapple juice
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake well and strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
Well, damn. Despite my best efforts to create a drink that was summer-like and would mentally take me away from this bad weather, I’ve inadvertently created a tasty little autumnal treat. You wouldn’t think pineapple juice and banana would go to make something that tastes like crisp weather, but then again I’m always surprised when these things happen. It has a pleasant heaviness on it, that would go great with some smoked turkey. Not a winter drink, to be sure, but certainly something for the fall.
Cheers!
