December 30, 2010 (Day 334) — New Bounty
Only a few more days until the New Year! Another year full of promise, but also full of challenges. Fill your glass with this New Year’s Eve and drink in the tidings with great joy.
New Bounty
2 sugar cubes
Several dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz cranberry spice vodka
Sparkling wine
Place your two sugar cubes in the bottom of a shaker and soak with the bitters. Wait for a little bit while the bitters soaks and breaks the sugar down. Count your blessings!
After it’s sat for around a minute, fill the shaker with ice and top with the cranberry spice vodka. Cover and shake for at least 30 seconds, make it nice and cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and then top with sparkling wine of your choice.
Very delicious, actually. The cranberry spice vodka is a very solid base, and then add the spice of the bitters, it really takes off. The sugar tempers the spices, and depending on the type of sparkling wine you used, you’re going to have a super sweet spice mixture, or a perfectly balanced cocktail. You want perfectly balanced? Go with the drier wines. I used a brut and it was absolutely perfect.
Cheers!
