December 19, 2010 (Day 323) — Sparkling Rum Runner
Let’s say, for sake of argument that you’re spending your holiday season down in Cozumel or somewhere else equally warm.
That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the festivities celebrated by those of us in the northern hemisphere freezing our asses off. The Sparkling Rum Runner is here to bridge the gap between there and here. Or, if you want to simply pretend that you’re somewhere much warmer, this is good for that too.
Sparkling Rum Runner
2 oz dark rum
2 oz rum syrup
Sparkling wine
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine your dark rum and rum syrup. Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass. Top with the sparkling wine.
As you can see from the background, we were mixing up some Chex Mix. This is a nice cocktail for sipping with puttering about the house on a Sunday, getting ready for the Holidays. Just be warned that it is very heavy, even more so if you’re using a sweeter sparkling wine such as Spumante.
Cheers!
