Spice Tea

October 4, 2010 (Day 247) — Spice Tea

Curse you fall! While I love your football games and beginnings of hockey season, it seems every other year you decide to bless me with a head cold that makes me a barely-functioning zombie version of my former self. However, I have the advantage of living with the two allergic asthmatics, so there’s always a plethora of cold and allergy medicines around the house. At the very least I’m prepared.

A normal day in the Cocktails, 365 medicine cabinet.

Needless to say, I’m not exactly feeling up to drinking, nor do I think it would be the best of ideas all things considered. So, I’m going to reach back into my childhood and bring out something that my mom always used to make for me and my brothers when we were under the weather.

I’m going to break all sorts of cardinal rules in the post — especially in that there’s not a single fresh ingredient — but I call this comfort food and sometimes that’s all you really need when your head feels like it’s floating away.

Spice Tea

2 cups sugar

2 cups Tang (Orange)

1 cup instant tea

1 tbsp lemonade mix

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground cloves

In a large bowl mix everything togehter so it’s well mixed. It will have a cool, tiger-like striped look to it. Pour it into a jar to store for later usage. When feeling down, pour three tablespoons of the mixture into a cup of boiling water and stir well.

It’s delicious. Trust me. It may not be all-natural, super fresh. But it tastes like childhood. And it feels like home.

Cheers!
