September 22, 2010 (Day 235) — Banana Bird
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” — Albert Camus
Farewell summer.
You were hot and windy, and ungodly wet. We’ve learned some, killed some brain cells and had a great time. But, alas today is the last day of you. Do not fret, gentle stranger! You’ll be back again next year! We’ll still be here waiting, ready for another round of drinks and good times with friends.
Let’s send out Summer 2010 with a drink that bridges the summer/fall gap.
Banana Bird
2 tsp. creme de banane
2 tsp. triple sec
1 oz. bourbon
1 oz. heavy cream
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled rocks glass filled with ice. If you happen to have a pirate-skull glass that works too. I forgot about mine until I’d already strained it. But don’t worry! It’s in the picture!
It’s bright with the banana and triple sec, but dark with the bourbon and cream. Very good. Very balanced, and the perfect farewell to a great summer, as I sit on my back porch and watch the storm crowds roll in.
Cheers!
