September 16, 2010 (Day 229) — Bichon Frise

A Bichon Frise is a fruity little french dog that is probably what you think of when people utter the phrase “fruity little french dog.” It’s more poofy than a poodle. More girly than a baguette.

Awwwwwww! Look at him though!

They’re pretty dang adorable. Just look at him! But, if pushed, just like any dog they’re capable of going freaking nutzoid and taking you down. Or, at least tearing up your ankles pretty well. And as this article proves, there are some sissy dogs that have some pretty badass pasts. While playing around with the White Dog I received for my birthday, I came up with this delicious, girly drink that isn’t afraid to knock you down mark its territory. That is to say, it’s powerful, so please approach with caution.

Bichon Frise

2 oz Buffalo Trace White Dog

1 oz amaretto

1 oz sloe gin

1 splash orange liqueur

1 splash cranberry juice

1 splash pineapple juice

1/2 cup ice

Fill a hurricane glass with ice, then top with the liquors and juices. Take a long bar spoon and slowly stir from the bottom up, making sure to mix everything together well. Serve with a straw.

The yeasty qualities of the White Dog come right to the top, but the bite you usually associate with unaged whiskey is tempered by the other liquors. What you’re left with is a very smooth, very sweet, but well-balanced concoction that may look and taste froofy, but has the heart of a vicious White Dog at the center of it.
