September 15, 2010 (Day 228) — Nikkalicious
The final entry in my Kearney, Nebraska travel series! Over the past two nights we’ve reviewed a local brewery and a classy little joint. Now, we’re hitting up another Kearney institution — The Cellar.
The Cellar is a bar and grill that has been — from what my coworkers tell me — a local institution in the town for a good long while. In fact, according to The Cellar’s door (and if you can’t trust that, what can you trust) it’s been around since 1978. When I pulled up to the building, the parking lot was jammed full and there was a line out the door. That’s always a good sign in my book. I took my seat at the bar and met Josh, The Cellar’s resident bartender that evening. Unfortunately, it was a busy night so I didn’t have much of a chance to pick Josh’s brain too much.
He was able to tell about a little concoction he came up with called the Nikkalicious, a drink that’s based off of a girl at his previous bartending job who asked him to come up with something a little bit sweet.
So, he came up with
Nikkialicious
2 oz Midori
2 oz raspberry vodka
2 oz Peachtree schnapps
Dash of Sprite
Remember the other night? When I mentioned that there should be another genre of drink called the College Girl Drink? This is another one of those that fits the perfect definition. It is hella sweet, masking any kind of bite from the alcohol. This is perfect for the sorority girl in your life. For me, not so much. It’s a well-crafted drink, but it’s just a bit too sweet.
It’s not like I wasn’t warned though, considering when Josh set the drink down in front of me and said “I’m not going to lie. It’s sweet.”
Cheers!
