August 7, 2010 (Day 189) — Texas Fizz
Warm day heading into the final days of the Dodge City rodeo. And since it’s actually a PRCA rodeo, with competitors from all over the world, why don’t we head down south for a bit tonight make a little something called a Texas Fizz? I’m a little confused by the name, truth be told, as there’s nothing in the drink that’s unique to Texas. But hey, I’ve still got some champagne and it’s vaguely reminiscent of the rodeo! Until you see it that is.
Texas Fizz
1.5 oz gin
1.5 oz orange juice
.25 oz grenadine
Champagne to top
Pour the gin, OJ and grenadine into a cocktail shaker, top with ice, cover and shake. Strain into a large, chilled martini glass. Top with champagne.
Now you see why it doesn’t exactly live up to it’s implied name of being a rodeo drink. It’s not exactly super masculine. But, it is tasty, wish is all that really matters when it comes to making champagne cocktails. It’s very crisp thanks to the citrus. I used a Brut for as the champagne, and I’m glad I did because I think this would be just a little too sweet had I used a Spumante.
Jenn liked it too!
Cheers!
