July 27, 2010 (Day 178) — Fancy Scotch
Today is National Scotch Day! National here in US or in Scotland? Damned if I know really, I’m too damn lazy to Google it.
(Okay, I went back and looked it up. According to this Website, it’s actually National Scotch Day in the US).
I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to make a cocktail with TAPE, but hey, I’m up for a challenge!
Wait, what?
What’s that?
Scotch WHISKY?
Ahhh crap. Guess I’ll have to trash my Supertasty Stickiness Socktail.
I GUESS I’ll make something with scotch whisky. After all, it IS my favorite liquor. The trick is finding something that actually tastes good cocktail-wise. As I’ve said in the past, scotch is great sipping drink. It’s not so much a great cocktail base. But, I’m always willing to forge new ground. And, I’m feeling fancy. Let’s be fancy!
Fancy Scotch
2 oz scotch
1/2 tsp triple sec
1/4 tsp superfine sugar
2 dashes bitters
1 twist lemon peel
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the scotch, triple sec, sugar, and bitters. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with the lemon twist.
It’s fanciful, alright! You still have that awesome, distinct scotch flavor, but it’s tempered with the little dashes of sweet in there. Once again, I prefer my scotch as-is, with that smoky woody flavor. But, this is a bit more accessible. It’s sweeter and doesn’t have as much of a burn. Not bad. But still, I prefer my scotch on the rocks for Scotch Day.
Cheers!
