July 22, 2010 (Day 173) — Grand Blue
Okay, so my plans to make “healthy” drinks for the week headed south pretty damn fast. In other words, I made one. Then it was back to the not-so-good-for-you variety. Ah well. At least we’re still exercising!
And, as usual, summer has settled its sweaty, hairy ass over western Kansas. It’s hot, it’s humid and it stinks (thank you packing plants)! So what if we’re not the Riviera taking a jog along the beach with all the scantily clad co-eds? When can at least pretend we’re on a tropical beach somewhere. And with Malibu Coconut Rum, that’s possible!
So tonight… to cool down, we make…
Grand Blue
1.5 oz Malibu Coconut Rum
1.5 oz peach schnapps
1.5 oz blue curacao
3 oz sweet and sour mix
Build in a rocks glass filled with ice. Put a frilly umbrella (or whatever garnish you would like) and party like it’s June 1969! If your recognized the Cuyahoga photo/reference, congratulations, you get 3 History Nerd points! (Redeemable for “Not getting laid” at any bar).
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a color that does not occur in nature. But damn is one tasty atrocity to all that is right and holy. VERY much a touristy drink. Ever seen “Forgetting Sarah Marshall?” The main character, Peter, spends a good half of the movie getting completely ripped on fanciful tropical drinks. Yeah, it would fit in with those. And like those, it’s easy to drink and the booze will sneak up on you.
Perfect for a pool party.
Cheers!
