July 21, 2010 (Day 172) — Tipperary

Specifically, Tipperary is located in Ireland.

Here’s what it looks like:

Tonight, we made a drink called the Tipperary.

It looks like this:


3 oz gin

1.5 oz sweet vermouth

1.5 oz orange juice

1 oz grenadine

Now, technically, you’re supposed to build this in a cocktail shaker and strain it into a chilled martini glass. I’m going to say “To hell with tradition,” spit at it’s feet and make it’s monocle pop out in shock! I’m making it as a rocks drink, because I think it will be better served.

It’s good. Sweet, with a juniper bite from the gin and sweetness from the grenadine. Like a lot of classic cocktails, it’s not exactly subtle on the palate, and kind of takes a tap dance across your taste buds. But, it’s good! (Jenn didn’t like it).
