James Bond Martini

July 15, 2010 (Day 166) — James Bond Martini

Since writing my ramblings on the classic Martini for Savvy Host, I’ve spent the past couple days thinking about those classic cocktails of yore. And it got me thinking of one of the most famous of all Martini drinkers — Mr. James Bond, himself.

Speaking of total class, everyone’s favorite misogynist always took his shaken, not stirred. So, from “Martinis” by Sally Ann Berk, I bring you

James Bond Martini

3 oz gin

2 oz vodka

1.5 oz Lillet

Lemon twist for garnish.

Combine your ingredients in a cocktail shaker and — you know it — shake it, don’t stir it. Now, normally you’re supposed to avoid shaking your gin, because you can damage the flavors. But, with the other additions, you should be safe. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

It’s bright, with the gin taste coming through clearly. The Lillet is more of an aftertaste, while the vodka brings up the rear as a good booze booster.

Very strong, and not for the faint of heart, however.
