July 6, 2010 (Day 157) — East India Cocktail No. 1

I had such great success with Mr. Boston’s drink last night (slightly altered, granted) so I figured I’d hit up the book one more time to find something tropical and summery (as per my wife’s request). This one wasn’t quite to her liking, but I was a fan.

East India Cocktail No. 1

.25 oz pineapple juice

.25 oz triple sec

.5 oz Jamaica rum

1.5 oz brandy (only use VSOP or higher quality)

1 dash Angostura bitters

Combine your ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add the ice cubes on top, then shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist and maraschino cherry.

A very exotic flavor. All the ingredients combine to create something that really doesn’t taste like any of the ingredients in and of themselves. It was… oddly sweet. I can’t exactly put my finger on what it reminds me of (some cocktail writer, eh?), however it is a pleasant sweetness.

And, best of all, it still has that boozy burn I adore so much. Not too shabby.
