Pink Frost

May 12, 2010 (Day 102) — Pink Frost

I seem to be making a lot of pink drinks lately. I don’t know if I’m tending to favor the foofy drinks because my wife has declared May “Jenn Month” (Mother’s Day, her birthday, our anniversary) or if I just feel bad making super strong cocktails that Jenn’s not too interested in. At any rate, I’m trying to catch the right balance between classic ass kickers and modern lightweights. Consider tonight’s a modern lightweight.

The Pink Frost:

1 1/2 oz. dark rum

1 1/2 oz. white chocolate liqueur

3 strawberries

3 oz. half and half

At the bottom of your cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberries with the liqueur. Pour in your other ingredients and add ice. Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass.

The first one I made — with the recipe listed above — was okay. It wasn’t anything outstanding. Just a little too… weak.

So, here’s our adjusted version.

3 oz dark rum

3 oz creme de cacao

6 strawberries

1.5 oz heavy cream

Follow the same procedure, then garnish with a strawberry.

Now, I’m not saying that more is always better. That’s not always the case. But with this drink, it really is. The original recipe certainly isn’t bad, but it’s just so low key. And not low key in a good way. The amped version is… well… amped up. We love it.
