Pink Rose

May 7, 2010 (Day 97) — Pink Rose

It’s been a while since I’ve cracked open the “How to Mix Drinks” cocktail book. It lists bizarre drinks. It’s old and moldy. And by God, it knows how to shove a whole bunch of booze into a small drink.

Booze recipes from 1936!

Ahhhh, dear old friend. What sort of post-Prohibition craziness do you have in store for me tonight? Something strong? Something odd? Something… eggy?

Why yes! I haven’t made a cocktail with an egg white in quite a while, so I figured I’d break rank and do something a bit more classic and bit more classy.

The Pink Rose

4 oz gin

1 oz grenadine

1 oz lemon juice

1 egg white

Combine your ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Now, I realize that you’re usually not supposed to shake gin, but you can get away with it in this case, because you really want that egg white mixed up in there.

Very strong — as are a lot of the older classic cocktails. The flavor is sweetly sour with the grenadine and lemon, and the egg white lends that awesome texture to the drink. It looks very hot pink, but it packs a wallop, so don’t be deceived by it.

It’s good. Not great, but good.
