Buster Brown

February 18, 2010 (Day 19) — Buster Brown

Two Christmases ago, my brother Paul bought Jenn and I a book called “The Art of the Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the Classics.” There are some recipes in there that, due to our location in the boonies, we’ll probably never be able to try (without mail-order that is). Example: The Nickel Rose (Campari, aquavit, Velvet Falernum, peach bitters).

Where the hell am I going to find aquavit in Dodge? (Photo from Wikimedia Commons)

But, there are some new twists on classics that we’ve tried every once in a while. With my new bourbon kick, I figured I’d try out the Buster Brown. The recipe follows:

  • 1.5 oz bourbon
  • .5 oz lemon juice
  • dash of simple syrup

Mix, then pour into martini glass.

If nothing else, this drink has a great color.

It’s bar time…

It’s got a nice bourbony kick to it (which is to be assumed), while the lime and syrup mellow it out just enough that it’s not like drinking bourbon straight up. Add some ginger ale to it for an interesting take on a classic highball drink.
