Kolin’s Super Amazing Wonderful Califragalistic Drink of Wonderment

February 17, 2010 (Day 18) — Kolin’s Super Amazing Wonderful Califragalistic Drink of Wonderment

When I first started this blog, I mentioned that one of the great things about a cocktail was its ability to bring people together over something unique, something flavorful and sometimes even something a little bit fun. And certainly there are plenty of liquors out there to create an endless array of booze-filled loveliness.

But there’s another hidden beauty in mixology: You aren’t simply limited to alcoholic beverages. Kids feel left out, especially when adults are indulging in fancy libations pulled off with killer presentation and a unique flavor. Enter my 11-year-old stepson, Kolin.  So he can enjoy entertaining, I’ve tried to make an effort to create non-alcoholic drinks based on the cocktails that Jenn I enjoy.

I doubt he’ll have any sort of problems with the “entertaining” side of things.

So, the other night while I was going through my cocktail for the night, Kolin decided he would take a cue and whip up a nice non-alcholic highball to go along with dinner. And I have to say, I was most certainly impressed.

So, here it is. An Internet first!

Get yourself a highball glass.

  • 1/3 glass crushed ice
  • Orange juice until the ice floats
  • 1/4 glass cranberry juice
  • Dash of grenadine
  • Top with ginger ale

The first one Kolin made, prior to mixing.

Stir until it turns a uniform pink.

No. 2, looking good!

So, straight from Kolin’s mind to your gullet, may I present to you Kolin’s Super Amazing Wonderful Califragalistic Drink of Wonderment. And it’s delicious. The juice gives it a nice healthy kick, the grenadine gives you a bit more confectionery sweetness, and the ginger ale gives it a great sparkle. This would be great with a heavy brunch to help cut through all the french toast and eggs.

Hosting a cocktail party and you need something for the kids, or those among you who don’t drink?  Bust this out.

Tell ’em Kolin sent you.
