February 9, 2010 (Day 10) — Turkey Peck
Okay, peppermint schnapps. You don’t like me and I don’t like you. But I paid good, hard-earned money for you, so by God, we’re going to get along. Or I’m going to force you down my gullet eventually. Whichever comes first!
Tonight’s cocktail is something called the Turkey Peck. It’s a recipe I pulled off of the back of my pepperment schnapps bottle. Seemed interseting, and I’m always willing to give booze a second chance, even if it did break my heart.
Pretty straight forward:
- 1.5 oz peppermint schnapps
- 1.5 oz bourbon
- Top with cola
Get yourself a tall glass, fill with ice. Pour in your booze, top with cola then stir. Voila! You done went and got yourself a Turkey Peck!
And now… the moment of truth. Schnapps… here’s where we make it or break it!
Surprisingly not bad, actually. As I mentioned in last night’s drink, peppermint schnapps is an overpowering addition to any cocktail. Unlike the mellower creme de menthe, that schnapps has a killer bite to it. Unless you partner it with other strong flavors. So with the bourbon and the cola, the schnapps isn’t overwhelming.
It’s… odd… to be honest. The first taste isn’t delicious, but it’s not entirely UNpleasant. It’s the aftertaste that’s actually quite good.
Verdict: While it certainly won’t be working it’s way into my regular cocktail rotation anytime soon, maybe I won’t be discounting schnapps juuuuuust yet…
