Ethereal

ethereal

We’re mixing with the reposado Casa Noble today, so when mixing with a heavier tequila (or any heavier liquor) it’s best to remember that balance is the key. The Ethereal takes some of the sweeter notes and turns this into a borderline dessert cocktail, but it’s salvage by the quinine tang of the tonic. 3 […]

Casa Noble Reposado

S1035-2

We’re on to the second round of Casa Noble’s most basic line of tequilas. We started earlier this week with the Crystal (blanco) which exceeded our expectations with a very pleasant sweetness and earthiness that was strikingly different than other blanco tequilas we’ve reviewed.

French Oak

French_Oak

This Cocktails, 365 original utilizes the pepperiness and sweetness of the Casa Noble Crystal (blanco) with light touches of bitterness from Campari and citrus. The name comes from Casa Noble’s decision to age their tequila in french oak barrels. 3 oz Casa Noble Crystal tequila .5 oz Campari bitters Juice from one lime 2 dashes […]

The Great 40 Experiment – Mickey’s

Steampunk

We’re pretty sure Mickey’s Fine Malt Liquor has a typo in its name. “Mickey’s Fine Malt Liquor.” We’re at least 90 percent sure that should read “Fine. Malt liquor!” You can hear the desperation on the label. Now, our knowledge of Mickey’s is a little more in-depth than Colt 45. After all, Mickey’s was the […]

The Great 40 Experiment – Day One

After all, it works every time.

There are many questions that stand the test of time. These are quandaries that last eon after eon, being debated by the greatest minds each generation has to offer. “Are we alone in the universe?” “Is there a God?” “Can morality really be treated as something that’s a part of the natural world, or have […]

UV Sugar Crush Vodka – It’s bad!

chemical_vodka

You know, we’ve broken rank with the cocktail illuminati (cockillati?) on several occasions. Most noticeably on the whole “flavored vodka” thing. You see, most who mix (or at least mix well) find flavored vodkas anathema to the idea of a well-made cocktail. They’re often over-flavored, sugary pieces of treacle that are barely recognizable as their […]

Asia: More Rum than the Caribbean

Which to drink first? (Pro Tip: Both.)

The Caribbean tends to get the lion’s share of attention when it comes to rum. I mean really, it does make quite a bit of sense if you take the time to really dig down in and look at it. The Caribbean is the fertile crescent of rum. Much like man is thought to have drug himself into being in eastern Africa, so rum heaved itself out of the hodgepodge of cultures that had poured into the “New World.”
