I follow Playboy on Twitter and Facebook. No secret there. It’s always kind of been a bit more classy. The gentleman’s titty magazine. And while the old cliche says “I only read it for the articles,” it’s a safe bet that the articles really will be up to snuff and equally balance the prurient pleasures of breasts.

Today, Playboy was holding casting calls in Chicago, which meant that not only was Twitter… well… atwitter with news/photos an updates of the future bunny hopefuls, it seemed as if my Facebook news feed was inundated with updates as well. So, the more I watched the updates pop up, and the more I saw the cavalcade of names scroll down my screen of Bunny hopefuls, I decided that I had to make something tonight to commemorate those hopefuls who are hoping to hit it big.

So, I began scouring the interwebs (which is a series of tubes) for a Playboy-themed cocktail. I had a little bit of luck, but each one seemed just a bit too… unimpressive. They asked for booze mixes — which I consider a big no-no — or they used ingredients I wasn’t able to procure without at least a little bit of effort. But, considering I have a pretty impressive home bar, I knew I was going to be able to cook up something delicious. Something tasty. Something balanced. Something smooth and jazzy. Something… Playboy.

Don't own it? You should. Killer.

So. What to do? After playing around with a couple mixtures this evening, I came up with The Bunny. Tonight’s drink:

2 oz vodka

2 oz Rated X Liqueur

1 oz Campari

1 oz fresh lemon juice

.5 triple sec

Combine your ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake vigorously. Use the lemon you just squeezed and run it around the edge of a martini glass. Rim with sugar. Pour from shaker into the martini glass and garnish with two rose petals.

This drink — which I would like to play around with the proportions some more — has an excellent balance of bitterness, sweetness and tartness. The Campari does an excellent job underscoring the floral sweetness of the Rated X. The bite of the lemon works with the sweetness of the triple sec, and they all combine to a smooth, tasty cocktail that packs plenty of “oomph.” After all, what’s the point of drinking a cocktail unless you KNOW you’re drinking a cocktail?

I feel like this drink acheives what I wanted it to — it’s strong, yet foofy and feminine. It has a nice, hot-pink color to it connotative of the Playboy mansion and it’s bunnies. And it’s good, which is all a cocktail should really strive to be.

So, best of luck to you girls who are attending the casting calls! This one’s for you!
