April 7, 2010 (Day 67) — Opal Martini
Apparently the wind gods (Hail,Zephyrus!) read this blog and decided to up the ante with even more chilly winds from the north this evening.
So, I had planned on making another coffee-based cocktail this evening. Then I took the dog out on a run. So now I’m all hot and sweaty. So we’re going back to a clean, crisp spring cocktail!
Because we haven’t used anything from the ass-kicking cocktail book in a while, why not try another one today!
Tonight, we drink… The Opal.
This recipe makes two relatively large — and powerful martinis.
6 oz gin
2 oz triple sec
4 oz orange juice
1/4 sugar
Put all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, mix thoroughly, then pour into two chilled martini glasses.
Just like the Church Lady Martini, the Opal Martini is rough, but in a delicious way. Once this gets warm though, look out. Midway through, Jenn and I had to put our drinks in the freezer to cool them off. Warm, this just burns. Not for the faint of heart, but good for those who like a martini with kick.
Cheers!
